Malaria

Malaria is a tropical disease transmitted by the female anopheles mosquito. Once bitten, the disease may not take effect immediately and you may fall sick weeks later.

The disease is treatable but can be potentially fatal. Malaria accounts for numerous deaths in Kenya each year. The disease is not contagious.

There is a lower risk of Malaria infection in the Nairobi and Central Kenya area and the high risk areas include the Coastal lowlands and Western parts of the Country.

You can take preventative measures to ensure your stay is not hampered by illness. See your local Medical Practitioner for an anti-malarial prescription before traveling.

While in the Country you can use Mosquito repellant spray or lotion to prevent bites. If you intend to camp, it is recommended that you sleep under a Mosquito net.
