Heat and Altitude in Kenya

It is important to adequately protect yourself from the sun’s rays which can be potentially dangerous at this equatorial country.

Standard protection especially when traveling in open country should include at least a hat and sunglasses.

Long exposure to the sun can cause heatstroke and there is also the risk of sunburn. Precautionary measures can include; making sure you are adequately hydrated at all times, use sunscreen on exposed skin and reduce your body temperature by taking a slightly warm shower. It is also important to wear appropriate clothing.

Altitude sickness is another risk associated with high altitudes normally above 2,000 meters above sea level. This can affect mountain climbers and hikers in places like; Mount Kenya, Mount Elgon and the Cherengani Hills.
